Director of Ethics and Legal Affairs

After completing his Bachelors degree in Philosophy and Law and becoming a member of the Quebec Bar, Martin then completed his Masters in Law and Bioethics at McGill University.

Martin was a research associate for the Genetics and Society Project of Université de Montréal where he worked on policy analysis and drafting in the fields of research ethics and human genetics. Martin was also a member of several research ethics boards and was actively involved in the creation of an on-line tutorial for institutional research ethics boards in Quebec for the Ministry of Health and Social Services (http://ethique.msss.gouv.qc.ca/didacticiel/).

Still active in research ethics activities, Martin published several reports and articles in peer-reviewed journals and has been invited as guest speaker to numerous academic and industry conferences.

Martin’s unique and well-defined skill set have led a number of ethica’s recent achievements such as the re-structuring of the research ethics board to define specific Phase I, HIV, genomics and social sciences review panels, and the creation of ethica’s Government Affairs and Legal departments.

In 2007, Martin was a finalist of the Young Bar Association of Montreal - SFL Partner of Desjardins Financial Security: The Leaders of Tomorrow Gala.

Martin is a member of the Canadian Bioethics Society, the International Institute of Research in Ethics and Biomedicine and the Clinical Trials Research Group of McGill University and the Canadian Association of Research Ethics Boards (CAREB). Martin is also an active member of various industry organizations such as BioQuebec and the Drug Information Association (DIA).  [mletendre@ethicaclinical.ca; ext. 222]
